The Brown Palace in downtown Denver serves high tea every afternoon and it is an exciting place to sketch. The antique furniture, large cut glass lamps, glass top tables, and interesting carpeting present lots of challenges for the artist. The three tier desert tray on the front table was fun to draw and paint because it overlapped the background and middle ground and added depth to the painting. The guests linger over tea and deserts and I was able to get drawings and photo’s without being noticed. The Brown Palace is a Denver landmark and one of the places I return to over and over again as I work on my series of interior paintings.
