The Tulleries, Paris- Watercolor Painting

The Tulleries, Paris- Watercolor Painting by Dennis Pendleton

The public gardens in Paris are full of subject matter for an artist with giant statues, fountains, flowers, trees, and lots of people. Putting figures in a painting like this adds scale and interest. Because of the figures, you get an idea of the size of all the subject matter. Color and sunlight play an important part in this painting and the dark green shadows bring out the colors in the flowers and people. Notice how the white statue is visible because of the dark tree behind it. These Parisian Gardens are so full of interesting views it is difficult to settle on a subject and I couldn’t help thinking of all the artists who have painted in Paris.
