HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Thanks to all of you who followed these emails, took classes, workshops, bought paintings, took private lessons, and kept in touch. I know you have an interest and a talent for painting and I enjoy working with you on your artistic journey. I am excited about the new year and all the opportunities so stay tuned for upcoming announcements in 2019.

This painting will be another page in my upcoming book "My Brush With Denver." High Tea at the Brown Palace Hotel is a cool thing to do especially during the holidays if you have out of town guests. I love the ambiance created by the big cut glass lamps, period furniture and the three tier desert trays. In this painting, I took advantage of the white paper to create the lamps and the white dishes and only added small bits of color. I decided to place the figures in the middle ground behind the empty chairs and glass top table with dishes to create a sense of depth. I also made sure that each of the figures had a different gesture and seemed to be engaging each other in conversation. The carpeting was a challenge but it was an opportunity to use cool colors in contrast with all the warm reds and golds in the furniture. This was painted on 140 pound rough Fabriano watercolor paper with Winsor&Newton paints and Escoda kolinsky sable brushes.
