Denver Botanic Gardens Watercolor Workshop
This was my first demo on Friday of the workshop. I used a direct painting approach where I tried to get the colors and values and edges right the first time without any over washes. I created my own borders with a pencil line rather than using the actual borders of the watercolor paper.
This painting of hollyhocks was my demo on the second day and because the flowers were a light value, I concentrated on the colors around them as much as the flowers themselves. Letting some of the colors drift into the background with softer edges added a nice touch.
This was my demo on the last day and I was intrigued by the orange and blue flowers because they are complementary colors and always work well together. I always like to show the artist at work with dripping paint, spattering, and visible brushstrokes. ......
