Pathos, Watercolor Painting

This is a large painting 40 X 60 inches and I included myself in the photo so that you could judge the scale. The title “Pathos” refers to this majestic flower in its last days. Painting something this large is a challenge and yet I still use the same brushes, palette, and paints that I use on all my paintings. The paper is weighted down in the areas that I am working on but It still buckles to some extent and that is just part of the process. In a big painting like this, I draw in the main objects like the sunflower and some of the leaves but a lot of the painting is decided on while I”m working and it’s important to let my imagination take over. If you go to my website dennispendleton.com you can see more of these large floral paintings.
