White Orchids Watercolor Painting

Orchids are the most beautiful flowers and really fun to paint. When I brought these orchids home I was so excited to paint them that I couldn’t sleep that night. Working with the white watercolor paper instead of using white paint for the petals was a challenge. This procedure is critical in watercolor painting and it is one of the techniques I discuss in my tutorials on my website. The indigo and cerulean blue background are cool colors and they push the orchids forward in the composition. I get asked all the time “how do you choose what to paint” and the answer is I paint whatever inspires me. These orchids really were irresistible.
